For some of us, once we start making a little money in affiliate marketing, we get a little fat and lazy. We start thinking we know it all and we’re on E-Z Street.
That complacency can get us left behind in the affiliate marketing business and cost us a huge amount of money, not to mention momentum.
Here are 7 Steps To Staying Profitable in Affiliate Marketing.
- Test new Niches – Never be satisfied with a few streams of income. You never know when those streams will dry up. Also, by continuing to search for new Niches and testing new markets, you’ll not likely to get left behind when the next big thing hits the market. Alwasy be deligent for emerging niches!
- Develop A Network – You know what they say, two heads are better than one. If you’ve never been to a internet/web conference, make plans to attend at least one this year. This is where you’ll see the latest and greatest that technology has to offer. It’s also where you may turn up profitable partnerships. If you get a chance to meet some affiliate managers, by all means jump at it. They love talking business with the affiliates! That’s what they’re there for!
- Work the list – You know what they say, “The list is where the money’s at”. Along with finding new niches, you should also be looking for ways to grow your email list. Hopefully you’re using a service such as Aweber or Feedburner to keep in contact with your email list (or to start building one if you don’t have a list).
- Build the links and they will come – this could go along with #2 above, but I consider it a separate task. Always be on the lookout for places to put new links. I try every day to find at least one or two sites to add links. It may not sound like much, but eventually you’ll have backlinks galore and Google will smile down on you
So many times I’ve talked to people who have stopped working on their link building and they’re wondering why traffic has slowed down. Traffic = Money. When the traffic slows down, so does your money. Keep the traffic coming in with dedicated link building. - Mine fresh content for your site – This certainly goes hand in hand with #4 above. If you want traffic to continue to come back to your site, you have to have the quality content that keeps them interested. If you don’t want to hack it out, then find someone who’ll do it for you. Elance, Guru.Com and RentAWriter all have freelance writers just waiting to research and write you keyword rich content.
- Take the time to learn how to use social sites - Remember rules #2 and #4 above? It seems everyday there’s a new Social website coming out that tries to outdo the one the day before. Now I really, really don’t like a lot of these sites. However, they can be golden to you if you know how to work with them. Social sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Sphere, MyBlogLog and others offer the affiliate marketer a concentrated group of potential traffic and business contacts. Unless you getting a million hits a do or so, you’d be silly to ignore the traffic from these sites. Learn how they operate and get your share of the traffic.
- Take a break – Yep, walk away for a weekend and let everything just sit. I know it’s hard. As I type this, I’m getting ready to head to the Beach this weekend to a rental. I’m fretting over a million and one things that don’t matter right now. Once I get there, there will be no internet service. I will be happy! Going a few days without checking stats, writing content, worrying about rankings, etc. does wonders for me. I arrive back home recharghed and ready to take on the World of Affiliate Marketing once again. And you know what’s funny? I usually come back home with some great ideas or marketing strategies!
Staying either on the top or near the top in affiliate marketing requires you to keep changing. No one that makes money with affiliate programs run our business the way we did 5 years ago or even 2 years ago. It’s a changing World and a changing market place. You must adapt if you want to have a piece of it!

Great tips of making money with affiliate marketing. Personally, I find that it is difficult to build an average 1 to 2 link daily. I can find a lot of backlinks in short period time but then later searching relevant sites getting difficult as I have linked to most of them.

I know what you mean. At times, it’s like I’m going in circles when I come across the same old set of blogs. lol
