Could This Be The Perfect Affiliate Marketing Website?

August 2nd, 2007 · 1 Comment

For quite a while now, I’ve been seeing these funny cartoons on other peoples websites. I looked at the cartoons and noticed a GoDaddy promo link at the bottom of the cartoon along with a link back to the creators site. “Cool” I thought.

Link Popularity vs. PageRank vs. Yoda
Pretty neat huh?So after seeing a few of these, I clicked on over to bLaugh.com to see what this was about. As soon as I saw the web page, my affiliate marketing early warning system went off!

Near Perfect Application of Affiliate Marketing Strategy

Seldom do you come across a page like this. It’s nearly brilliant the way it’s set up. It has everything that every affiliate marketer should be shooting for when setting up an affiliate marketing website.

In case you don’t see what I’m seeing, I took the liberty to break it down.

Here’s why this site rocks!

  • Viral Content – The cartoons are funny. People like to put them on their website and this site makes it easy for website owners to put the cartoons on their site with cut and paste code.
  • There’s a Catchy Offer – At the bottom of the cartoon, there’s the caption of “Save 10% at GoDaddy by using the Coupon Code ‘blaugh’
  • Backlinks- The cartoon is clickable which will lead the surfer back to blaugh’s website. That’s a backlink. I searched Yahoo and it’s showing 10,800 backlinks to this site. NOT TO SHABBY! This site has a PR7. This just goes to prove you don’t always have to have a lot of text to rank well. It’s all about the backlinks baby!
  • Adsense- Not only do they monetize the site with the GoDaddy affiliate program, they are using Adsense. There’s a block in each sidebar and a 336x block down the page.
  • Clever Clickable Domain Suggestion – If you look beneath the Cartoon on their website, you’ll see text that says “Source” which usually leads to a authority site (but I did see one leading to an Amazon affiliate page) and below that you’ll see “Domain”. The domain is a funny, catchy domain and when clicked on, takes you to GoDaddy’s domain search. Clever, they’re sending people there via their affiliate link to the domain search.
  • So Easy Cavemen Could Do It- Every where you look on this site, they’ve made it easy to put their cartoon on your website or MySpace. There are several mini tutorials on how to do this. They are all about making it as easy as possible for their browsers to put their cartoons on other websites. Brilliant!

I’d like to know how much this site brings in. I bet it’s a pretty good haul.

What I would change

There are only a few things I would change if I owned this site. First, I’d move the RSS block over to the right side and move the Adsense block that is below it up to the sweet spot. Google heatmaps have shown that the upper left corner is the most viewed area.

I’d do away with the Adsense block in the right sidebar. Fewer Adsense blocks on a web page have been shown to increase the price per click.

Third, I’d find at least one other way to monetize this site. Most of the Adsense ads on each page are showing nearly the same ads and not everyone who visits will want a domain name or hosting through GoDaddy.

But hey, if they’d give the website to me, I’d take it in a heartbeat!

We should all strive to make our affiliate marketing pages as user friendly as this one! The cool thing is, most people do not realize that this page is all about them making money for the owners, ;) which makes it nearly perfect!

That’s really interesting. So 3 column websites have proven to be the thing.. Do you think there would be a CTR-improvement in your site when if you switch to the theme of the website in-question?
