I was SO happy to find this article. I’ve been writing a local blog on weddings for almost a year now and have had little or no luck finding any encouragement or information on how best to promote and/or monetize a local blog. Would love to know if you have any specific suggestions for my local niche: weddings (couples mostly). I’ll be moving my blog to WordPress in the next few weeks but I’m pretty happy with the Blogger blog and the couples who find it love it. Currently I have about 30 – 40 visitors per day which, given the relatively small but sophisticated city I live in (Charlottesville, VA) is not too bad (I think). This is some good information and I will keep it with me as I look to expand my learning in affiliate marketing. Would you recommend linking your blog with craiglist too.? I have promoted affiliate products on craiglist but it never occurred to me to post my blog listing there too. Anyways check out my blog on 8 legit internet marketing.

Hi Mike,

I visited your local blog and it does look like you’re on the right track.

I’ll offer a few suggestions just as constructive criticism. You can take it or leave, it may be worth what you pay for it

I would change the blog layout. ProSense is a good theme, but I think for a local blog, one of these free 3 column themes would be better, especially the Magazine type themes at the bottom of the page. Free 3 Column WordPress Themes

I would also add some unique content, perhaps stories about Mansfield and the like. I’d also consider doing a Weekly Feature article on a local business. Just write about the business, when the got started, bio’s on the Owners and such.

I’d submit the site to many directories as I could, especially directories dealing with local websites.

I’d also think about taking out some cheap local advertising for your blog unless you’re getting all the business you need. Local classified papers and those newsletter type papers you find in restaurants like the CoffeeNews can be a good place to put your url.

Thank you for the great post.

I’ve been dinging around with building a local website based on my home community but haven’t been able to get a clear line of thinking.

You’ve helped me come up with some new ideas that I’m going to implement this weekend.

I’ve been doing such a poor job of blogging right now that all I was doing was taking local ads, scanning the creative and re-writing the ad copy in my post. It hasn’t been effective yet.
