The first annual SEO World Championship is underway. The SEO World Championsips started Jan. 15th and will run through May 1st.
The SEO World Championships will offer newbie SEO’s a peek at Master SEO tactics
This is a Championship contest amoung SEO’s. I’ve looked over some of the contestants and you have some Heavyweight SEO’s, some would-be SEO’s and some wannabe SEO’s participating in this contest.
Here’s how it works. The SEO World Championship chooses a keyword phrase. At the end of the contest, who ever has the most points wins. Pretty simple hunh?
How do the participants get points you ask? The points are counted from 10 to 1 by your position in each of the three major search engines: Google, Yahoo and MSN.
For example, let’s say your number 1 on Google, #5 on Yahoo and #10 on MSN. You would recieve 10 points for your 1st place position on Google, 5 points for your 5th place position on Yahoo and 1 point your your 10th spot on MSN. You would have a total of 16 points.
What is the keyword phrase this year? It’s “global warming awareness 2007“. Don’t laugh, I didn’t make that up. That is the real keyword phrase!
I just did a search on that phrase in Google and it looks like Quadzilla from SEO Blackhat is out front for now. I expect the SERPS to change quite a bit between now and May 1st since this is a “new” keyword.
I love to read Quad’s articles. Not only are most of them informative, they’re very clever. You need to click on over there and read his entry into this contest. Not only does Quadzilla actually get what Global Warming is all about, his entry is also pretty humorous near the end. Click here to read Anthropogenic Global Warming is a Fraud.
The rules state that participants must follow Google’s Guidelines. I predict that there will be some disqualifications after the end date. Why? Well I’ve researched some of the top participants websites that they’ve entered and it looks like some of them are using questionable tactics right out of the starting gate. It will be interesting to see if the company putting on the SEO World Championship will check on on the top winners. If so, expect to hear some whining and bitching as some of them are disqualified.
What’s this mean to the average Internet Marketer?
Well, you could paticipate. I thought about it. It’s very tempting to join. However this is the seasonal “slow” time in our B&M company and it’s the time of year I use to launch new websites and products. I’m a wee bit competitive and I know I’d spend all my time on this challenge if I entered, thus neglecting my sites that make money. This time I’ll sit back on the sidelines and watch.
Here’s how you can take advantage of this Challenge. If you don’t have the Firefox browser, get it. Then download the SEO for Firefox extension. Next, go to Google and type in the keyword phrase. Use SEO for Firefox extension to disect the pages for such things as keyword density, keyword positions, see who’s backlinking and how many backlinks each website has, see how they’re using header tags, nofollow tags, etc and their position on the page. You’re going to disect the hell out of each top 10 contestant’s websites. If I have time, I may post some of the findings from my own research. It will be toward the end of the contest though. I’ll give the SE’s a chance to settle down and become stable with that keyword page before I do more research.
Overall, I think that the SEO World Championship will be good. I can see a huge opportunity for us common folk to learn from some of the SEO Masters!
