People ask me all the time to look at their pages and tell them why they aren’t ranked well in Google. Many, many times these pages are brand new and we all know Google isn’t crazy about brand new pages, especially when it has many older optimized pages to pick from. (plus, many times it’s not their page, it’s the lack of backlinks to their site)
So if you’re trying to get a brand new page ranked #1 for a competitive keyword or keyword phrase, good luck, these onpage optimization tips for Google will help you a little, but you’re going to have to have patience for your page to move up Google SERPS…and a lot of backlinks!

I was browsing a small business forum the other day and noticed a post by a business owner. The business owner had hired a “SEO Expert” to increase their rankings in the Search Engines. After nearly a year, their website was no where near the top of any Search Engine.
He emailed his site to me to take a look at it for him. It only took a second looking at the source to realize this guy had hired the wrong person to do SEO on their website. A quick look at his site with my Firefox SEO extension showed no backlinks.

As I browse the Web any given day, I look at how Webmasters and Blog owners optimize their pages (or DON’T). One thing I keep seeing is the lack of optimized links. Google loves optimized links and images. In fact, I’ll go as far as saying that with all things being equal, a site with optimized links and images will outrank the ones that aren’t optimized every time.
Optimize Your Links with the “Title” Attribute
I covered Anchor text in my post Overlooked Steps To Boost Traffic and Rankings, but it’s important enough to go over here again.

I never gave this much thought because I guess it comes as second nature to me. However, I get quite a few emails about “Which affiliate program to choose” or “What’s the best affiliate program to choose.”
I’ll give you my method for choosing an affiliate program. This method has worked for me for years.
First let me start off by saying pick an affiliate program that interest you. I know it’s an old cliche but it happens to be one that is very true. Even if you’re not very knowledgeable about something a company sells, you can still be successful if you’re passionate about it! This is probably one of the biggest reasons people fail in affiliate marketing!
