I was reading the latest post at Get Rich Slowly, a favorite blog of mine. The post was a review of the Book and DVD called “The Secret”. J.D.’s review caused me to sit back and go into my “pondering” mode. I reflected success’s and failures of my past as well as the paths of many people I know in life. And thus was born a post here on affiliate marketing ![]()
In a nutshell, “The Secret” is about channeling your positive thoughts to manifest things in your life. Click here to read J.D.’s book review of “The Secret”. I haven’t read the book or watched the DVD and after reading his review, I’m not likely to. This post will deal with his thoughts and belief on “thinking and manifestation” areas of his review.
In his book review, J.D. states
Die-hard believers, such as Rhonda Byrne, the book’s author, have elevated the Law of Attraction to a whole new metaphysical realm. They’ve stretched valid psychological ideas to cover everything in life, and it just doesn’t make sense.
The part of that quote I have a beef with is the end where he writes that it ”just doesn’t make sense” I’ve learned long, long ago that there are things in this life that we just can not explain. There are also many things that science can not explain. I believe there are mysteries in life that weren’t meant for us to understand or explain. One of those things is the “Law of Attraction”
Henry Ford summed it up nicely when he said
“Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right”
There’s a lot of power in positive thinking and if you study some of the most successful people in life, you’ll soon learn they do not go around feeling sorry for their self or thinking negatively about their lot in life.
In his book “The Attractor Factor“, Joe Vitale addresses the Law of Attraction as well mixing in some good ole marketing into the equation.
Joe’s book is a good read but can be summed up with these 5 principles
- Know what you don’t want;
- Select what you do want;
- Clear all negative or limiting beliefs;
- Feel what it would be like to have, do, or be what you want;
- Let go as you act on your intuitive impulses, & allow the results to manifest.
“Clear all negative or limiting beliefs” is one principle many of us have a problem with. Do you know a person who has the worse luck or the gloomiest outlook on life? You know the one that crap happens to all the time and no one knows why?
My wife is a great woman (and no she’s not looking over my shoulder) but she struggles with keeping a positive attitude on a lot of subjects. I can think of 100 good business opportunities or directions to take our brick & mortar business and in no time she has come up with a thousand negative reasons not to do it. I have to be careful not to let those negative thoughts and suggestions into my own thoughts. It has came to where I will just tell her I do not want to hear her negative thoughts. I tell her to find me 20 good reasons why this or that can succeed and then come back to me.
Napoleon Hill outlined 17 success principles years ago in his course “Laws of Success“. This course should be a foundation for anyone wanting to be a sucess in life, including business.
Another classic book of Napoleon’s is “Think and Grow Rich“.
Napoleon Hill interviewed over five hundred successful people including Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, John D. Rockefeller, George Eastman, William Wrigley Jr. and Charles M. Schwab to find the keys to their success.
It soon became apparent to Napoleon that these people did things that the average person didn’t do. One of the things was that they habitually saw their self as successful, even when they were broke and at the lowest point in their life. They KNEW they were a succes, even though their current situation didn’t justify it.
In the first sentence of the book, Think And Grow Rich, Napoleon writes
“Truly, “thoughts are things,” and powerful things at that, when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire for their translation into riches and other material objects.
If you develop the habit of thinking positively, good things will happen to you. Why? I don’t know or can not explain it, they just do. Now does this mean you can sit on your ass and dream about a Mansion in Miami with beautiful Babes and exotic sports cars and wake up one morning in the Mansion? No, of course not.
Dreaming is not the same as thinking positively, but it does have its place.
There is an old saying that goes
“The harder I work, the luckier I get”
Combining positive thinking – aka The Law of Attraction – with sound principles of business (such as goal setting, market testing, etc) will set you on a path to success.
You can always tell they person in a Forum that doesn’t make squat with Affiliate Marketing. They are always the ones making excuses for their failures and running down successful affiliate marketers. And I can guarantee you that if they do not change their thought process, they never will be successful at affiliate marketing or anything else in life.
Oh yeah, there’s one more book you should consider reading should you want to be a success at whatever you want in life, it’s called “The Bible“. This book has been around for ages (literally). I’d suggest the Chapter called “Proverbs” for those looking for an outline on starting and running a successful business or obtaining a happy and successful life. In the last half of the book you’ll meet a man called Jesus. He was the Father of Affiliate Marketing and very successful at it (both literally and spiritually)

GREAT post. You touch on many of the psychological points that I allude to in my post. Negative attitudes do limit people. Positive attitudes help them succeed. Limiting beliefs are a problem. But the law of attraction isn’t going to make anyone rich by magic!

I believe that positive thinkers are much more likely to succeed in life because they are more likely to take the action necessary to create success. Those with a negative attitude expect to fail and taking action to them is just a waste of time because they expect to fail anyway.
